Livery - Tuition

Lessons on your own horse can be arranged with our Yard Manager, Ali Ferry.

Ali is a very experienced BHSII(SM) instructor, with 20 years experience teaching both adults and children, both recreationally as well as students who wish to go on to compete at all levels in most equestrian sports.

“I am particularly proud to act as Chief Instructor for a local Pony Club with extensive experience in taking students through their horse care and riding examinations – I have successfully taught students up-to BHS Stage IV and Intermediate teach level.

I regularly compete and recent successes include competing a dressage horse from novice to medium level and qualifying at each level for the winter semis and summer regionals every year. My own horse moved from dressage after showing such enthusiasm for show jumping and has since has wins at Newcomers and Opens, Marcel is now taking the step up to Foxhunters and we’ve been having some fun competing at some BE One Day Events with some success and will be out at some local dressage competitions during the winter. Finally, I am training and competing a lovely eventer, with some success in the individual disciples of dressage and show jumping as well as eventing.

I started on a working livery yard and riding school when I left school and gained a good practical grounding on the job as well as excellent tuition. On gaining my BHSAI, I ran several yards in the Kent and Surrey area. My qualifications and area of expertise include: livery yard manager; teaching; competition riding; coaching students in their BHS/Pony Club examinations; running a large cross country complex and organising equestrian competitive events.

Five years ago, Tessa Wheeler and I developed the idea of Chilham Park Equestrian Centre and the yard and cross country course was built in the grounds of Chilham Castle Estate. I am a director and Yard Manager, with sole responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business. Chilham Park’s quality has been acknowledged by the London Organising Committee of Olympic Games and Para-olympic Games Limited as a venue of outstanding quality and has been chosen as an official London 2012 Pre-Games Training Camp.”
